Learning & Teaching
We believe that St Joseph's Finley is a faith community within the parish of St. Mary’s, where Christ is central and all members are encouraged in their faith journey to empower them to be able to make a difference in the present and future world and society. We nurture acceptance, compassion, forgiveness, respect, justice, unity and religious practices.
At St Joseph's we follow the Diocese of Wagga Wagga's syllabus. There are different units of work for each grade level but they all have common strands: Life in Christ, Prayer, Profession of Faith and the Celebration of the Christian Mystery.
English is the key learning area where students develop knowledge, skills and understandings about English language and literature. K–6 syllabuses in New South Wales are organised in broad stages that describe the sequence of learning experiences through which students will progress.
The outcomes and content in this English K–6 Syllabus are organised in three strands*:
✒ Talking and Listening
Students will have the opportunity to develop an appreciation of mathematics and its applications in their everyday lives and in the worlds of science, technology, commerce, the arts and employment. The study of the subject enables students to develop a positive self-concept as learners of mathematics, obtain enjoyment from mathematics, and become self-motivated learners through inquiry and active participation in challenging and engaging experiences.
Science & Technology
Science and Technology is the learning area in which all students learn about the natural and made environments by investigating, by designing and making and by using technology. Learning in Science and Technology will draw on and contribute to learning related to the
other five Key Learning Areas.
Human Society & it's Environment
Human Society and Its Environment K–6 provides a knowledge base for students to gain understandings about change and continuity, cultures, environments, and social systems and structures. Students will have opportunities to learn about people and the environments with which they interact. This knowledge base provides the foundation for studies of Australian and world history and geography, for social, cultural and legal studies, for environmental and economic studies, and for citizenship education.
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
In our rapidly changing society there is increasing community awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles. The resultant good health is characterised by improved quality of life, less sickness and disability, happier personal, family and social experiences and the opportunity to make choices in work and recreation.
Creative and Practical Arts
The art forms of visual arts, music, drama and dance can be thought about in a variety of ways. They play a significant role in how meaning is made in peoples’ lives. Visual arts, music, drama and dance offer students and people of all ages opportunities for personal expression, enjoyment, creative action, imagination, emotional response, aesthetic pleasure and the creation of shared meanings.
